Razavi Hospital employs nuclear medicine for functional diagnosis, modern techniques of treatment

02
Nuclear Medicine Department at Razavi Hospital is one of the specialized and advanced wards of this medical center, offering a variety of diagnostic services to patients with heart diseases, cancer, and bone disorders.

Talking about services of Nuclear Medicine Department at Razavi Hospital, Parishad Khoshtinat, supervisor of the department, said: “Utilizing radiopharmaceuticals, advanced imaging equipment, and modern technologies, nuclear medicine plays a crucial role in functional diagnosis of diseases and supporting patients' treatment processes”.
Referring to the nature of nuclear medicine activities, Khoshtinat said: “Unlike conventional imaging methods such as CT Scan and MRI, which show human body structure, the main focus here is on examining function and physiological status of the organs”.
She added: “In nuclear medicine performance of various body organs is assessed using radiopharmaceuticals and specialized imaging system which significantly contributes to accurate disease diagnosis”.
Khoshtinat noted: “Radiopharmaceuticals produced in this center are used solely for diagnostic imaging as they play a key role in enhancing precision of nuclear medicine services”.
She went on to say: “The cyclotron as the diagnostic radiopharmaceutical production unit underwent an upgrade at Razavi Hospital since May last year. The process was completed this May after one year, utilizing the most advanced equipment”.
Supervisor of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Razavi Hospital mentioned: “Ten thousand patients visited this department in 2024 and 2025. Department's equipment is now fully operational and up-to-date”.
Regarding specialized services, she said: “Specialized cardiac scans are performed using SPECT systems, while PET technology is used for detecting and evaluating tumors and cancer metastases. Bone scans and monitoring patient treatment progress are among other services offered here”.
Elsewhere in her remarks, Khoshtinat emphasized full compliance with radiation safety standards. “All procedures follow protocols of the Atomic Energy Organization, including protective policies, specialized ventilation, and strict radiation dose control. Also, department staff undergo periodic specialized monitoring and medical tests”.
She also addressed modern technologies saying, “Artificial intelligence is currently used as an assistive tool alongside physicians for image analysis and enhancing diagnostic accuracy, and this technology continues to evolve."
In conclusion, supervisor of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Razavi Hospital spoke about expanding field's activities and said: “Producing new radiopharmaceuticals, upgrading equipment, and expanding specialized services are among most important plans for this department”.
