Mashhad, beacon of cultural diplomacy, pilgrimage: Custodian
Ayat. Marvi, the Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi (AQR) says Imam Reza shrine can anchor dialogue, cooperation, and regional engagement.

According to Ayat. Ahmad Marvi, “Under the radiance of Imam Reza Shrine, Mashhad can become a center for dialogue, interaction, and cultural diplomacy rooted in pilgrimage”.

He made the remarks during a gathering of guests attending the second Provincial Diplomacy Conference, held on October 22 at the Imam Reza Shrine.

“Hosting such a summit in Mashhad, blessed by the presence of Imam Reza, would undoubtedly be more fruitful and impactful”, he noted.

The top official went on to say: “We believe that no one seeks refuge at this sacred threshold without returning with hope and fulfillment. Each person receives blessings from Imam Reza according to their faith and devotion”.

Referring to the pressures of international sanctions, AQR’s Custodian acknowledged the constraints they impose but emphasized the opportunities they also reveal.

He suggested: “Without such limitations, initiatives like provincial diplomacy might never have emerged”.

He criticized passive attitudes toward the future, stating: “Islamic teachings reject the notion of ‘let’s see what happens’. Instead, religion teaches ‘what must happen’ and ‘what must not happen’. God has granted humanity willpower, choice, and the ability to change”.

“When enemies impose hardships, one must seek alternative paths”, Ayat. Marvi added.

“Provincial diplomacy”, he said, “reflects this logic—when sanctions block one route, another must be opened for progress and cooperation”.

Quoting a hadith, head of AQR said: “Complete perfection lies in understanding religion, patience in adversity, and prudence in livelihood. Whether leading a household or a nation, one must plan for people’s welfare”.

Ayat. Marvi described Mashhad as a gateway to eastern and northeastern Asia, with untapped potential. “Nearly half of Iran’s tourists are pilgrims and this capacity must be used to expand cultural and economic ties”.

He also mentioned Razavi Hospital’s recognition as a national leader in medical tourism, underscoring the region’s international healthcare potential.

He concluded by affirming the shrine’s full commitment to serving the nation, calling it a religious and revolutionary duty.
