Human rights defined through Imam Reza’s teachings, human dignity: Scholar

Masoud Shadjareh, head of the Islamic Human Rights Commission of London, attended the 6th Imam Reza International Congress to discuss the contemporary relevance of the teachings of Imam Reza, a scholar of the Prophet’s household.
“The teachings are not merely a theoretical framework, but an operational roadmap for realizing human dignity. In the Islamic view, human rights are founded on compassion and innate human dignity rather than confrontation,” he said.
Referring to Imam Reza’s scholarly debates with followers of various religions and sects, he said that a logic rooted in human dignity is one of the most prominent features of the Razavi tradition.
“Imam Reza engaged with his opponents through argument and respect, reminding us that, in today’s human rights discourse, the solution to injustice is not merely shouting, but clarifying the truth through a language rooted in pure human nature,” he said.
He stressed that human rights, regardless of color, race, or belief, are a divine trust, adding that defending these rights preserves the dignity God has bestowed upon humanity.
Shadjareh also elaborated on the significance of the thoughts of the martyred Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in the contemporary world, asserting that the struggle associated with him is neither ethnic nor national and is not confined by geographical borders.
“Reducing this struggle to everyday politics and geographic boundaries distances us from its essence. His thought is fundamentally a struggle between truth and falsehood, a basic confrontation rooted in the nature of existence and divine teachings, which requires a Quranic and supra-material perspective to understand in today’s world,” he said.
Drawing on his experience at international forums and noting the gap between Western human rights claims and realities on the ground, he said the world is witnessing an awakening in which even political figures are recognizing that humanity is in danger.
“This awakening stems from the honesty, steadfastness, and sacrifices witnessed on the Resistance front. The movement of the martyred Leader along this path was a reflection of the Husseini movement, which placed truth above all forms of deception and the hollow foundations of falsehood,” he concluded.
