A traditional ceremony, in which the eulogist mounts a platform to perform was held at Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad, northeast Iran, on martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan and demise anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
The annual mourning event, held during Safar 1448 AH (the 2nd month on the lunar Islamic calendar), brought together a large number of devotees at Imam Khomeini Portico. They gathered to express devotion to Ahl al-Bayt, commemorate two solemn occasions on Shia calendar.
Following Quran recitation, Hoj. Seyed Esmail Hatami addressed participants on Prophet Muhammad’s emphasis on friendship, fraternity among Muslims. He stated: “Whoever destroys unity among Muslims is an enemy.”
Hoj. Hatami also referred to grief, loneliness endured by Hazrat Fatima, Prophet Muhammad’s daughter, following her father’s demise in Medina. He noted: “Father, had you been here, I would have pushed back those bearing hatred in streets with my veil.”
Mourners then joined elegiac recitations for Imam Hussein, repeatedly invoking his name in a deeply emotional atmosphere.
As the ceremony concluded, participants chanted “Ya Aba Abdillah” and commemorated Martyred Leader, while expressing their devotion to Iran.
