Imam Reza Shrine hosts Shawwal 8th mourning ceremony
Pilgrims and local residents gathered at Imam Reza Shrine, northeast Iran, to commemorate the anniversary of the destruction of the graves of the Imams buried in Baqii Cemetery, Saudi Arabia.

A mourning ceremony marking Shawwal 8th, the anniversary of the demolition of the shrines of the Prophet’s family in Baqii Cemetery, was held at Imam Reza Shrine with pilgrims and local residents in attendance.
The atmosphere of the shrine was filled with grief, devotion, and reflection as attendees honored the memory of the Imams buried in Baqii Cemetery.
Participants gathered to commemorate the tragic event, reciting prayers and lamentations to express their attachment to the Prophet’s household.
The ceremony revived the remembrance of the Imams’ suffering and the longstanding devotion of their followers.
In the literary section of the program, elegiac poetry describing the sorrow and solitude of the Imams buried in Baqii Cemetery was recited. The poems, rich in emotion and historical remembrance, were met with strong engagement from the audience, deepening the atmosphere of collective mourning.
Later in the ceremony, moving recitations drew attention to the tragedy of the shrine’s destruction. The lamentations resonated through the shrine complex, and many pilgrims joined with tearful voices and expressions of grief, honoring the memory of the Imams with heartfelt devotion.
Elsewhere, Hoj. Sajedinasab, the event’s religious scholar, spoke about the role of the Prophet’s family in the Islamic tradition and highlighted their spiritual significance for believers.
The ceremony concluded in an atmosphere of devotion as participants recited prayers, lamentations, and accounts of the sufferings of the Prophet’s household, reaffirming their enduring loyalty and attachment—an affection that continues to inspire believers across generations.
